Unwind Your Spine
a workshop w. Sarah Bay
In this 3 hr workshop with Sarah Bay, we’ll combine the releasing techniques of self massage using therapy balls together with a mixed levels yoga practice. This time we are focusing on one of the most important parts of the body, your spine, the home of the spinal cord with nerves that connects your brain with the rest of your body, allowing you to control your movements. We will start with self-massage of your back area, the number one area of the body where people experience pain or discomfort at some point throughout their life. Throughout the whole workshop we will focus on spinal mobility and work on increasing your awareness of the midline of your body.
Who is it for?
This workshop is for anyone who experiences a sensation of tightness, tension, or a feeling of restriction in their spine and back area. This workshop is also excellent for anyone who wants their spine to be a source of stability, mobility, and JOY for years to come. Experience with Yoga will be helpful, but the most important thing is to be curious about exploring your movement patterns.
What can you expect?
Self massage (self-myofascial release) using Yoga Tune Up therapy balls to help release tension in your back.
A Yoga practice that explores all the movements of the spine as well as what it means for you to be centered in your body. Throughout this practice we will also touch upon the role of the Sushumna Nadi also referred to as the “central channel of energy” in Yoga.
Identify the parts in your body which you are over-activating and under-activating so that you become aware of your movement habits, blinds spots and strengthen your body awareness
Leave with exercises that you can do on a daily basis to continue to improve mobility and awareness of your spine beyond this workshop.
To finish we’ll wind down using therapy balls to release any last tension and move towards a complete restful state with restorative yoga poses followed by a long Shavasana.
